Liaoning Flying Leopards (Liaoning Ben Steel Team) belongs to Liaoning Shenyang Sansheng Flying Leopard Basketball Club. Established in 1953, this professional basketball club is based in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, with home games played at Liaoning Gymnasium. At its founding, the team was named Northeast Sports Training Class Basketball Team, later changed to Liaoning Province Basketball Team.
In 1995, Liaoning Men's Basketball joined the CBA alliance and was renamed Liaoning Hunters Shenfei Bus Basketball Team. From 1996 to 2000, Liaoning maintained a top-three standing in the league with a stable core roster, though they fell just short of the championship each year—becoming the true "Uncrowned Kings" with multiple runner-up finishes.
Following the 2001-02 season, Panpan Group acquired the team and renamed it Liaoning Panpan. The 2003-04 season proved disastrous due to chemistry issues, with the team struggling to a 12th-place finish and suffering relegation.
The 2004-05 season saw the implementation of North-South divisional play with promotion/relegation canceled, allowing Liaoning to remain in the top tier. This marked the beginning of the Jiang Xingquan coaching era, with the team capturing the regular-season North Division title and returning to playoff contender status. The 2017-18 season, under Guo Shiqiang's leadership, saw the team claim its first CBA Championship.
Liaoning has produced a continuous pipeline of young talent, contributing numerous promising players to both provincial and national teams—including Zhao Jiwei, Han Dejun, Guo Ailun, and Zhang Zhenlin, all of whom have represented China at the international level.
